Bruce Prichard Reveals Why ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan Never Happened

One of the biggest dream matches that never happened in WWE history was ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan. Two of the biggest stars in the history of professional wrestling. The match between the Rock and Hogan at Wrestlemania 18 had an insane crowd reaction from fans. Some think that Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan would have topped it.

Former WWE creative team member Bruce Prichard recently spoke about the topic on his podcast:  ‘Something to Wrestle With Bruce Prichard’. Prichard said that the plan was to do the Rock vs Hogan first and build towards Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan as they felt like it was the bigger match:

“Well I can tell you from my vantage point and my discussions were, where are we going to go because the match was Austin and Hulk or Rock and Hulk. I think everyone agreed that Austin and Hulk were the bigger match that we had to get to, so the feeling was, why not give it to them first, let’s build it some more. Rock and Hogan were interchangeable in their careers”

The Rock vs Hogan turned out to be an incredible match based on the crowd reaction alone. The fans went NUTS for the two legends at Wrestlemania 18. The match between Hulk and Austin never ended up coming to fruition after that.

“Originally it was planned for Rock and Hulk and then eventually get to Austin and Hulk at some point, whether that be at the next WrestleMania or not. There may have been discussions where one wasn’t going to put the other over, but that was just gesturing and positioning”
