5 Reasons Why Jinder Mahal Winning The WWE Title Was A Smart Move By WWE

3) It Proved That Smackdown Really Is The “Land Of Opportunity”

We hear all the time that Smackdown Live is the “Land Of Opportunity” where WWE stars can come to make a name for themselves.

Backlash was a prime example of this narrative moving forward for the blue brand.

Jinder Mahal’s win shows us that WWE can pull the trigger on a main event push at anytime. Jinder went from losing matches on a weekly basis to challenging for the World Title (in only a few weeks). Some might see Jinder winning as a negative thing that devalues the Championship. Others see it as WWE building a new star.

With Jinder’s win, the blue brand has cemented itself as a place where anything can happen and where lower card wrestler’s are given a chance.

If we are looking at this in a positive way, it means that some of our favorite stars could get a push out of nowhere: Sami Zayn and Luke Harper come to mind as people that could shoot up the card in a moment’s notice.

AJ Styles said it himself: “Smackdown makes ’em, RAW takes ’em”. Smackdown truly is a brand that is able to develop stars for WWE and that is a good thing.

4) He Is A Hated Heel

Another reason why I think Jinder winning the title could be a good thing is that he is a heel that almost everybody hates. That is unheard of in WWE today.

AJ Styles was WWE Champion as a heel recently, but he was universally loved. Similar situation with Kevin Owens as even though a lot of fans hate him, he is still well-loved by hardcore fans. Even though a large majority of fans boo Roman Reigns, there is still a portion of the audience that cheers for him.

Jinder Mahal is the first time I can remember that both hardcore and casual wrestling fans dislike the WWE Champion. He is getting booed unanimously when he appears on Smackdown Live. Fans seem to genuinely dislike the guy and that can be a great thing for Jinder and his future opponents.

WWE needs to walk a fine line between getting booed out of the building and viewers turning their television sets off (because he is champion). If they are able to build him up and keep viewers watching, it could be a good thing!
