John Cena was recently a guest on E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness. He spoke in-depth about his feud with Roman Reigns and their promo battles for the past several weeks.
Cena explained the biggest “hang-up” that he has with Reigns as the front-runner of WWE. He went into depth about how he wants to challenge him. Here are some highlights:
“My biggest hang-up with Roman Reigns as the front-runner of the WWE is the fact that he seems to lack in his ability to communicate with the audience. And that is not that he can’t because I know Roman. Socially, he is a great guy. He has a presence that is undeniable so I know it’s there. Nobody has had the nuts to try and bring it out of him, nobody. My job in the WWE is to either be the best or to be a vehicle for the best. So I was going to go out there and rip that kid every single week, until he said enough. I thought his promo on Monday was brilliant”
Cena says that he loved the promo from Reigns because he knew it didn’t come from anybody else, it came from Reigns himself. He saw it in his eyes and saw the passion. Cena says that there is a respectful rivalry between him and Reigns because they both want to be the number one guy. Cena wants to keep his spot, Reigns wants to knock him off.
Cena also says that he thinks Reigns knows who his character is but he doesn’t get challenged on a weekly basis on the microphone.
“I think Roman knows who he is, he just doesn’t have everybody every week to tee off on him. We kind of matriculated with some really good talkers, so you either sank or swam every single f’n week. There was somebody to knock you down a peg, no matter what every week. It is rare that, that exists now a days.”
Cena says that he was trying his best to get to Roman Reigns and challenge him. He thinks that Reigns has done great work but he is going to have to find that passion every week when Cena isn’t there to bring it out of him.
