John Cena Explains Why He Wanted To Return To WWE As A ‘Free Agent’

John Cena was recently interviewed by Complex in order to promote the new Tapout Body Spray line. Cena spoke on a wide variety of topics about both his wrestling and movie careers.

One of the topics of interest for wrestling fans was when Cena spoke about his status as a ‘free agent’ in WWE. After returning for the first time to WWE since Wrestlemania 33, Cena is now able to appear on both RAW and Smackdown Live as he pleases.

Cena says that it was his decision to be a free agent and he explained why:

“The reason that I wanted to be a free agent and the reason they kind of granted my request is because I don’t know if I’ll be available for Smackdown specific only or Raw specific only, and I also know that my days are numbered. I just turned 40 in April and we have so many young and talented performers, I don’t know how many years I have left. So in the time I have left, I’m gonna do what I can to dedicate to this company I just want to be able to do it the most time that I possibly can”

Since returning, Cena has been appearing on Smackdown Live exclusively in terms of WWE television. We saw the first glimpse of ‘free agent’ Cena on July 16th when he appeared as a surprise and defeated Bray Wyatt at the Lexington live event. This was a RAW exclusive show.
