Best CM Punk Matches Of All-Time

CM Punk has delivered some great matches within the WWE, earning him the moniker “The Best in The World.” Today, let’s look at some of the best CM Punk matches of all-time! Please note that all of these are subjective. All opinions vary, but that’s what makes the wrestling community diverse. With that being said, let’s get into the list!

Best CM Punk Matches Of All-Time

5. CM Punk vs. Randy Orton vs. Christian vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus – Money in the Bank 2013

This match was one of the greater Money in the Bank ladder matches that haven’t been at WrestleMania. This showcased the major use of ladders, the numbers game, athleticism, and drama. The crowd also made this match more enjoyable, if the crowd is into the match, then the viewers at home are most likely to be more into the match as well. CM Punk seemed to be a favorite as well to win the ladder match as he has won two Money in the Bank ladder matches prior to this. This match also began the build to a feud with Paul Heyman, so let’s get into that.

It is nearing the end of the match, and out of nowhere, Curtis Axel comes out and attacks the wrestlers even though he is not in the match. He walks out, surveying the damage, but walks into a GTS courtesy of CM Punk. Paul Heyman comes out and chews Axel out saying how he almost screwed up Punk’s chances of winning. CM Punk is now climbing the ladder, selling that he is hurt. Heyman gets into the ring and slams a ladder twice into the leg of CM Punk. CM Punk is now on the mat, looking at his former advocate in disbelief, and Heyman then slams the ladder into the head of CM Punk. This causes Punk to bleed really badly, giving him a true “crimson mask.” This led to Randy Orton securing his first ever Money in the Bank contract.

The reason why I put this match to kick us off as it didn’t really focus on CM Punk, it focused on all the wrestlers in this match. However, it did launch a storyline/feud with Paul Heyman which would focus on him in the future.

4. CM Punk vs Chris Jericho – Payback 2013

This match felt underwhelming and slow at times, and not in a methodical way. It was a good enough match that was in the mid-card but it seemed like CM Punk wasn’t in the match entirely.

He peaked near the end of the match and got the crowd all fired up. He delivered not one, but two GTS’ to Y2J which ignited the crowd. Both men had control in the match at one point in time, however, it seemed for a while that Chris Jericho was going to come out on top and get a victory in Punk’s hometown.

The crowd was electric throughout the match, as Chicago is always is no matter if it’s a pay-per-view or a RAW or SmackDown, always adding to the matches and storytelling. Well….depending on how they feel.

Being as this was a seemingly continued feud from 2012, I couldn’t really expect less or more from these two. You can’t capture lighting in a bottle, but I can always appreciate a match between these two.

Being as this match had focus on CM Punk and Chris Jericho, this is why the match isn’t kicking off this list.

  1. Interesting list. I’d keep the Meltzer ratings out in the future though… these are your lists, not his, be proud of that!
Not a huge Punk fan myself, but I do think the later punk/cena match on RAW (no idea the date, haha) eclipsed the 11 MITB one. But just my opinion!!
