WWE Conspiracy Theories That Some Fans Believe

Here is a list of some of the biggest WWE conspiracy theories that have circulated the internet. Some have been around for years and others have been around for decades. Some fans even still believe that they are true to this day.

WWE Conspiracy Theories That Some Fans Believe

Note: We want to make clear that we are NOT saying that any of these are true. Enjoy the WWE conspiracy theories for what they are!

Conspiracy Theory #1 – The Original Ultimate Warrior Died And Was Replaced In The 1990s

There has been a longstanding urban legend in the wrestling world that the original Ultimate Warrior died and was replaced in the early 90’s.

It sounds ridiculous but it all stems back to when Warrior returned to WWE at Wrestlemania VIII. Some fans believe that the original Ultimate Warrior died and was replaced with a look-a-like based on his appearance.

Reasons why people think that it is true:

  • The Ultimate Warrior returned with much different hair.
  • His physique was much less impressive than before.
  • He was worse in the ring than before.

Warrior shot down the rumors in an interview with The Good Man Project:

“Yes, being dead is one of the many urban legends, falsehoods, mischaracterizations, what have you, about me. Nothing much I can do if people want to remain ignorant. I’ve had an Internet presence since ’96-’97 so it has been easy for a long time to find out the truth. Of course my former employers have worked hard and spent a great deal of time and money over the years to fabricate and spread lies, all of which have helped to keep rumors and other nonsense alive”

This is untrue but is an urban legend that has existed in the wrestling world for decades. Sadly, Warrior passed away on April 8th, 2014.

Conspiracy Theory #2 – WWE Sent Vince Russo To WCW To Sabotage The Company

A conspiracy theory that exists in the wrestling world was that Vince Russo was sent by Vince McMahon to sabotage WCW from the inside.

This theory stems from Russo being the head writer of WCW for the tail end of the company’s existence. As we all know, WCW eventually was bought by Vince McMahon in 2001. The idea is that Russo’s booking was so bad in WCW that he had to have been sent by Vince McMahon.

Reasons why people think that it is true:

  • Russo booked some ridiculous matches: Judy Bagwell on a forklift match, Viagra on a poll match etc.
  • He made (actor) David Arquette World Champion
  • He made himself World Champion
  • Many more silly angles.

Goldberg admitted that he has given this theory some thought in an interview with ‘Submission Radio’:

“I believe a part of the demise of WCW was the dips*** that we got from WWE. The writer, Vince Russo. I mean he was a moron through and through. He may have been successful at putting, you know wrestling shows together in the past, but I believe he was a plant. I think he was sent down to turn us, you know to make us go downhill. And I thought some of his ideas were, some of his ideas were asinine and ridiculous, and he and I, we didn’t see eye to eye on anything whatsoever. And so I think he was a contributing factor to the demise of the company.”

This theory seems highly unlikely. Many wrestlers have said that Russo had some great ideas but he always had Vince McMahon to help filter the good from the bad when he was with WWE. In WCW, he didn’t have the filter and went wild with some of his ideas. Also, if Russo was a plant, he would probably still be employed by WWE for his service in taking down their biggest competition.

Also, some would argue that WCW was going downhill prior to Russo going there.
