AJ Styles Explains Why He Hates The “You Deserve It” Chant

AJ Styles was recently a guest on Lilian Garcia: Making Their Way To The Ring. He spoke on a wide variety of topics about his wrestling career and future with WWE. One of the most interesting parts was when he spoke about his hate for the ‘You Deserve It’ chant.

This is a chant that is constantly heard from WWE fans after a wrestler achieves something, such as winning their first championship title. AJ expressed his dislike for the chant, saying that wrestler’s do not deserve anything, they earn it.

Here is what AJ said on his appearance on Lillian Garcia’s podcast:

I hate when people say, ‘You deserve it.’ Ugh, I hate that word”

When asked why, he responded by saying:

“Because I want them to say… “You earned it.”

AJ continued:

“Well, sometimes when they chant, “You deserve it,” well, like, no I don’t. Because there’s other guys who’ve fought just as hard to get to this point. Ehh,  I’ll let you know when I earn it. Like, if I earn something, they never can say I didn’t work for it”

He would also go on to say that everybody feels like they deserve something in life, but you have to work for it and nothing comes easy. A commendable attitude from the ‘Phenomenal One’.
