With Charlotte Flair’s move to Smackdown Live, it was reported that she would turning babyface. We saw this come to fruition after she was attacked by Natalya, Tamina and Carmella, aligning herself with Becky Lynch and Naomi on an episode of Smackdown Live.
Is WWE changing their minds about Charlotte turning into a full-out babyface moving forward?
On Smackdown Live this week, Charlotte blamed Naomi for their loss and was acting very heelish during their backstage segment.
It was briefly mentioned on the Thursday morning edition of Wrestling Observer Live (subscribe here) that some WWE officials backstage were initially against the idea of turning Charlotte babyface. Some felt like it wasn’t the right time to turn her away from her heel character that she has been excelling with over the past year.
Charlotte showing some of her heel characteristics this week could be an indication that her run as a babyface will be very short-term. It also might indicate that Charlotte will be a tweener character moving forward. This would mean she wouldn’t be fully heel or a face. That is only speculation from us.
We will have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks. Charlotte will be teaming up with Naomi and Becky Lynch at Backlash to take on Natalya, Tamina and Carmella. After the match, we will likely find out a lot more about Charlotte’s direction as a character.
