Long-Term Plans For The WWE Universal Championship

Brock Lesnar is currently the WWE Universal Champion. It is looking like we won’t see him wrestle until July at the Great Balls of Fire Pay-Per-View. That will mark 3 months since winning the title at Wrestlemania 33 against Goldberg.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio this week (subscribe here) speculated about the long-term plans for the WWE Universal Championship. Warning, some potential spoilers could be ahead.

Let’s start from the beginning.

– Brock’s first opponent will be the winner of the Extreme Rules Fatal 5-Way between: Bray Wyatt, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Meltzer suggests the winner of that match will likely be either Finn or Seth. One of them will go on to face Brock at Great Balls of Fire.

– Following this, Brock will defend the title at Summerslam. This will likely be against a returning Braun Strowman. Strowman was originally rumored to face Brock at Great Balls of Fire but was recently sidelined with an elbow injury. This forced WWE to change plans. Strowman is expected to return much sooner than the 6 months that WWE is telling us.

– Brock is expected to wrestle again before Wrestlemania 34 (maybe even more than once). This is where we could see: Rollins, Balor (whoever loses at Extreme Rules), Bray Wyatt or Samoa Joe as potential opponents.

– Lastly, if all goes according to plan, Brock will defend the title at Wrestlemania 34 against Roman Reigns. Meltzer reported this was the plan several months ago. We can assume Reigns would be winning the title in this spot.

Obviously things can change but this is speculation on what the WWE Universal Title picture could look like over the next several months. Take with a grain of salt as always.
