The Numbers Are In For The Debut Of Smackdown LIVE And They Show HUGE Increase

The WWE Draft/ the debut of Smackdown LIVE was on Tuesday night. The show featured WWE Superstars getting chosen to either the RAW or SMACKDOWN brands. The main event of the show was a re-match between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship. The idea for the brand split was to have both brands compete with each other for ratings and it looks like Smackdown Live is off to a good start!

The debut episode of Smackdown LIVE did an average of 3.17 million viewers for the night. This is a huge jump for the brand as their taped shows would average around 2 million viewers per week. To put in context, RAW the night before only averaged 3.13 million viewers for the show.

The first show because of these ratings would be considered a huge success for the WWE! It at least tells us that they are capable of getting ratings close to Monday Night RAW.

The WWE draft and brand split had a lot of hype so it will be interesting to see how the WWE continues to build. Hopefully they can be competitive with RAW for ratings after the initial buzz of everything wears off. The show also was competing with the Republican National Convention that was on TV in the United States.

  1. Hmmm? It would be nice to know if there was a way to figure out how many new fans tuned in. Seems like all the people who waych RAW, most likely tuned into Smackdown.
