Kota Ibushi took the WWE Universe by storm this summer with his participation in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic. He didn’t win the tournament but put on some absolute classic matches against Cedric Alexander and TJ Perkins. After the tournament he revealed that he wouldn’t be signing with the WWE full-time.

Fans got their hopes up again when he was announced as Hideo Itami’s tag team partner in the upcoming Dusty Rhodes Classic:

Ibushi told Tokyo-Sports that there is no chance that he is signing full-time with the WWE:
“Zero chance. Absolutely not. But these one-shot deals are an absolute plus for all concerned. If I can be the precedent for this kind of deal, it opens the doors for a lot of Japanese talent in WWE” (Source: Tokyo-Sports).

I think it is pretty great that he has been doing these one-off deals with the WWE. Glad him and the WWE have a working relationship and he is open to more stuff in the future.
