Backstage Concern Over Fans Hijacking The Hell In A Cell PPV

WWE has been promoting a triple-main event for this Sunday’s Hell in a Cell PPV event. The three matches are: Roman Reigns vs Rusev, Charlotte vs Sasha Banks and Seth Rollins vs Kevin Owens, with all three happening inside of the Hell in a Cell structure. It was originally thought that Sasha and Charlotte would be the main event, but it is now unclear.

Last week, Mick Foley sent out a facebook post, that indicated that Sasha vs Charlotte WOULD be the main event of the PPV. He later backtracked and edited the post to say that the match would be ‘one’ of the main events on Sunday.

According to Bryan Alvarez on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, there is backstage fear within WWE that there will be backlash if the Women’s match isn’t the last on the card. The fear is that fans will see the match happen in the second main event slot and leave before the main event is finished out of protest. This is heightened by the fact that the PPV is located in Sasha Banks’ hometown of Boston.

There is internal conflict within the company as some believe the match should be the main event and others believe that the World Title should always go on last.

This is why WWE has billed the PPV as a triple main event, in order to avoid backlash in case they decide that the Women’s match won’t be going on last. They will still be able to claim it was in one of the ‘main events’.

It seems that WWE has booked themselves into a corner. If Sasha and Charlotte main event, people will be critical of the World Title and Kevin Owens losing prestige as champion. If Owens vs Rollins main event, some fans will be upset that they were promised the women to be the final match. It certainly is going to be interesting to see what actually happens and who ends up being the final match of the night.

  1. Well, why not give the women a chance to main event a PPV? After all, this revolution has at least kept everyone watching the product.

If they always believe the World Title should be the last picture to show in a showcase, then why the elite titles such as World (SD Live) and Universal (RAW) were placed just next to the main event itself during SummerSlam? That also questions why the World Championship match took the first place of the No Mercy card? Those moves seem ridiculous if those were the cases.

  2. I dont believe any of the so called “fear.” nobody is gonna walk out in protest if Sasha and Charolette dont go on last. Haha

  3. people aren’t going to pay their hard earned money, then protest the product. ‘booing’ a particular segment isn’t protesting… that’s called being a fan – that’s what they do.

  4. to be fair, no fan will care if the women main event. In my opinion as a fan Kevin vs Seth needs to be the last match and no its not because its a World Title match, it’s because that’s the only match besides Roman vs Rusev that has a legit story to it. Sasha vs Charlotte has no story they just wanna make history which as a fan (and I like both women) pisses me off because HIAC is suppose to be about war or not having someone get in or out of the cage. What sucks to me is that WWE now only sees them two or Bayley getting a match like this. As fans we wanted women to have more time yes but if there’s no story to the match then what’s the point in giving them time at all. Can’t we have both?
