Backstage News On Why WWE Is Hesitant To Call Up Tye Dillinger To The Main Roster

Tye Dillinger is one of the top names that WWE fans believe should be called up to the main roster in 2017. He has been in developmental for a very long time and has gotten over with the crowd with his ‘Perfect 10’ gimmick. Many fans think the #10 spot at the 2017 Royal Rumble would be the perfect place for him to make his debut.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), WWE officials are a bit skeptical to call up Dillinger to the main roster.

The reason being is that they are worried about the “10” chants. If you watched NXT Takeover: Toronto, every time a referee counted someone out, the crowd chanted “10” in homage to Dillinger. This didn’t just happen at the event that Dillinger was wrestling in, it continued for the next couple of nights at Survivor Series and on RAW in the same building (Toronto).

The worry is that the “10” chant will become this generations version of the “WHAT” chant where it can completely take over a match. WWE is reportedly a bit worried about the long-term implications that this chant can have.

The idea is that once main roster fans keep hearing the chants at Dillinger, they will continue to use them throughout the entire show during count-outs. Imagine if every time a ref counted for next several years the fans chanted “10”? It is fantastic now but I can certainly see it getting annoying (saying that as a big fan of Dillinger).

Certainly not the fault of Dillinger for getting something over as well as he did. Just don’t be surprised if he isn’t in this years Rumble because the fear from WWE is too much.

Let us know what you think in the comment section below. What do you think of the chant or WWE’s skepticism?

  1. it sounds like what happened w/ daniel bryan. I will always contend that the ‘YES!’ chant was more over than daniel bryan ever was. its reach and appeal supersedes that even of the performer using it.

dillenger has several problems, IMO. we don’t really know what he is… is he a phenomena? what’s more over – him or his catchphrase? he’s also up there in age w/out being an elite talent like an AJ Styles. I think he’s a lot more damien sandow than styles. I think he’s more tyler breeze than styles or bryan. I think there’s this sympathy the NXT crowd gives to those who have paid their dues, almost irrespective of how good they are. that’s not to say dillenger isn’t good… but its likely he’s just another guy w/ a GREAT catchphrase. then again, sometimes that’s all you need.

I don’t like or dislike dillenger… I guess im more indifferent. I suspect he’ll go the way of 80% of the talent in the back — house show worker, superstar & main event worker, early/mid-carder w/ an opportunity to get slater, sandow, breeze type of IWC love.

      • its subjective really. I never quite understood the DB appeal. yeah, he was a good hand but was awful on the mic, IMO, and was spearheaded by a bunch of IWC/indy marks.
fans who prefer a good match over traditional story-telling w/ wrestling matches.

basically, the underdog fans got behind and revered the underdog wrestler. not completely uncommon for wrestling, but it wasn’t what WWE hand-picked for stardom. and when fans felt they had a hand in picking stars, they decided they would do that for everyone. they no longer wanted to be told who to boo and cheer… in fact, they tend to do the opposite out of spite.

  2. So now wwe is going to punish a person for getting over? Proves they only want who they want to get over. Sucks wwe is the only big place to wrestle.
