As many fans know, John Cena is involved in many projects outside of WWE. Cena appeared in a few movies in 2016. He also hosted a number of high-profile shows, including the ESPY awards and Saturday Night Live. Cena’s mainstream appeal is growing on a weekly basis.

On the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), it is mentioned that Cena will be taking time off after Wrestlemania 33 to focus on other projects in his career.
Cena will be starring in the film: The Pact, that will be coming out in 2018. Cena will be co-starring alongside: Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz in the film. It is likely that filming will begin for the movie during this time period, forcing Cena to step away from a regular wrestling role.
This is not unusual for Cena. In 2016, he missed a good chunk of time but still managed to appear on WWE TV a fair amount. Cena is a hybrid between a part-time and a full-time talent. He still works house shows when he is with WWE and appears on TV much more than someone like Brock Lesnar or Goldberg. It is becoming clear that Cena doesn’t need to work a full-time WWE schedule anymore and could have success outside of the wrestling business if he chooses that path.

He has been adamant that he still loves wrestling, so expect 2017 to be similar to 2016 in terms of how often WWE fans see him on weekly programming.
