AJ Styles and Shane McMahon faced off in the opening match of Wrestlemania 33. The match had a lot of negativity surrounding it when it was first announced. Many fans thought that Styles should have been paired with a much stronger technical wrestler.

Shane and AJ would go on to put on a fantastic match to kick-off Wrestlemania. Shane also silenced a lot of critics with his performance.
AJ was recently interviewed by ‘Inside The Ropes’ where he was asked if he is proud of the match against Shane:
“I’m absolutely proud of that match. I also think that most people go ‘Ughhh! Shane McMahon and AJ Styles?!’ Their expectations were very low, which made it easier for Shane and I. Because we could only go up. Shane puts 110% into everything he does, especially what happens in the ring. I was very happy with that, I felt like we did very well. I don’t know if it was the match of the night, but we gave them something they totally didn’t expect.”

It was our personal favorite match of the night at Wrestlemania 33.
