Mike was recently a guest on E&C’s Pod Of Awsomeness. He gave some backstory on his decision to sign with WWE.
According to Mike, when his contract was about to expire with TNA, he wanted to test the waters for a WWE run. He reached out to Paul Heyman, who put him in touch with Triple H. Triple H told him that someone would be in contact with him. He never heard anything until weeks later and didn’t think anything would happen.
When Mike and Maria were going to re-sign with TNA, Kevin Owens reached out to Mike. Owens apparently convinced him to wait it out before making a decision:
“What are you guys doing? I heard you guys were resigning with TNA, I don’t think you should do that. That is a stupid idea. You should come here.”
He says Owens also told him to wait about a week to make their decision. After a week or so, William Regal called him and offered them a contract to come right to the main roster.
