The Original Plan For The Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles Match At Battleground

There has been much talk in the wrestling world over the past few days about the Kevin Owens and AJ Styles match at Battleground. The finish of the match just didn’t seem to add up and a lot of people were questioning if it was botched or not.

Owens won the title at Battleground, but lost it back 2 days later on Smackdown Live. This seemed to give credence to the theory that Owens winning was not the original plan for Battleground. Here is a new report on the finish of the match.

According to Ryan Satin on ‘The Sheet Podcast’, the original plan for the match was for Kevin Owens to cheat while the referee was down on the ground. The ref would have counted the 3 while he was groggy, giving Owens the win.

Shane McMahon would have come down to the ring and restarted the match due to the tactics that Owens used. After the match was re-started, Styles would have retained his title.

The way that the finish went down, there wasn’t a reason for Shane McMahon to come down to the ring to restart the match (since Owens didn’t cheat). As a result, we were all left with a whole lot of confusion.

There is no answer as to why the finish was messed up, it just seems like some sort of miscommunication happened between all parties involved. Regardless, it seems clear that something went wrong since they put the title back on AJ two days later.
