WWE News: The Reason For The Recent WWE Cutbacks

We have seen a lot of cutbacks in WWE over the past month or so. It began with WWE removing pyro from their shows. We also have seen WWE cut some recent WWE Network shows, including: ‘Talking Smack’, ‘Unfiltered’ and ‘The Edge and Christian Show’.

So what the heck is going on? According to a new report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), we have some more details.

According to Meltzer, WWE promised shareholders that 2017 would see more profits than 2016. At the moment, this isn’t looking like the case. Meltzer says last year’s profits were $30 million. This year so far, he doesn’t have the exact number but says it is around $5 to $6 million. This means they are a long way from reaching their goals. This also is the reason why we have been seeing so many cuts, to try and lower production costs.

It should be noted that WWE isn’t in financial trouble or anything, just this years numbers and the WWE Network subscriber numbers have been disappointing so far.

It also appears as if more cutbacks will likely be coming to WWE.  Something to keep an eye on over the next several weeks. This is also the reason why we haven’t seen anything come of the WWE United Kingdom Championship show. It looked like several months ago we could be seeing a weekly show for the division but nothing has come of it so far. Meltzer says the UK show was expensive to produce.
