Kairi Sane won the inaugural Mae Young Classic after defeating Shayna Baszler. After the tournament was over, she was interviewed by Bleacher Report and spoke on a wide variety of topics (with the help of a translator).

One of these topics was about what she told Shayna after their match. After the hard-fought finals, the two competitors embraced in the ring for a hug.
Here is what Kairi said she told Baszler after the match during their embrace:
“I respect her so much and I told her that. I told her I was happy and I appreciated this chance. Both of us told each other, ‘Hopefully, we will have more chances, more competition in the future.'”
She also shared the thoughts that were going through her head before the match:
“This was the first WWE Mae Young Classic. I was very proud of myself for being one of the finalists. And every competitor worldwide was very tough. I had to believe in myself. I was very much focused. I had to believe in myself. I was very much focused.”
