Rumor Roundup: Backstage Notes On Survivor Series, Hit Row’s WWE Release, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) Backstage Note On Survivor Series (Part 1)

According to Andrew Zarian of F4WOnline, WWE originally planned for The Rock to appear at Survivor Series. He wasn’t able to make it and WWE had a financial commitment to still promote his new movie, Red Notice.

Here is what Zarian wrote:

Sunday’s WWE Survivor Series was originally supposed to feature Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. And for anyone watching last night, it was blatantly obvious that was the plan.

In July, I was told that the Brooklyn, New York, pay-per-view would be centered around Johnson. Between heavily promoting his new Red Notice movie on Netflix, the 25th anniversary of his WWE debut that took place in New York City, NBC’s renewal of Young Rock, and the second season of the Ruthless Aggression documentary series, the timing was perfect.

Yet another source informed me that there were hopes for Johnson to be on Monday’s Raw, dependent on his schedule. I personally didn’t see this as happening.

In late-September, the same source told me that Johnson would not be on Survivor Series due to his filming schedule and needing to quarantine for travel. However, there was still a financial obligation to continue with the plan for the movie promotion without Johnson which is what we saw last night. The basic concept stayed the same, minus Johnson himself.

My Take:

  • It was definitely a let down that we didn’t see The Rock on the show. I was really hoping to see him.

4) Backstage Note On Survivor Series (Part 2)

According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select (subscribe here), some members of the WWE staff voiced their concern about Roman Reigns vs Big E main eventing the show. This came after finding out that The Rock will not be appearing on the PPV.

Here is what Sapp wrote:

When some members of the team found out The Rock was not going to be present, we’re told they voiced their concern about the Reigns match closing the PPV, but there wasn’t a major push to change it. There were various run sheets that had the accurate rundown, but there were also numerous that were printed in reverse, which caused confusion backstage, and several thought there was a decision to switch the women to the main event because the Rock wouldn’t be present.

My Take:

  • I don’t blame them for being concerned. I would be too that the crowd would turn on the main event after The Rock didn’t show up.
