Rumor Roundup: Backstage WWE Update On The Rock, WWE’s Aging Roster, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) Backstage Note On An Upcoming WWE Special

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE will be running the ‘Tribute to the Troops’ special again this year. They are already starting to tape matches for it this week.

Here is what Johnson wrote:

PWInsider.com has confirmed there is slated to be at least one match taped at tonight’s Friday Night Smackdown taping in Ontario, CA for the 2021 Tribute to the Troops special.

My Take:

  • These shows are always fun. Looking forward to it.

4) Backstage Note On WWE’s Aging Roster

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is well aware that they have a lot of wrestlers over 40 on the main roster. This is one of the reasons why NXT changed, to try and build younger talent.

Here is what Meltzer wrote:

“They are very much aware and far more than just aware. They are very much cognizant of the idea that they got a lot of 40 year olds on the main roster and that’s one of the reason why NXT has changed so much. They feel that they got to get some guys in their 20s and get them ready for the main roster. They are aware, it’s not like they are in denial…I think that they are blaming the old — whatever it is, the fact that NXT was loaded with guys in their 30s.”

My Take:

  • It does make sense. Can’t rely on the old guys forever.
