Shawn Michaels Talks About Wrestling Drunk, Being Able To Compete With The Young Wrestlers Of Today

The ‘Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels is arguably the greatest wrestler in the history of professional wrestling. Many wrestlers that he has worked with have spoken very highly of his natural ability and talent inside of the wrestling ring.

In an interview with SI Now, Michaels was asked if he had ever wrestled while drunk in his career. Michaels admitted that he had wrestled drunk in the past. He specifies that he was never “3 sheets to the wind” or in other words, completely hammered but there was some times that he wrestled a match after some drinks.

Michaels was asked how he hid it, he says with all humility that:

“I was so naturally gifted that I could do that stuff blindfolded and standing one leg. I was put on this earth at that time in my life to do that stuff. There was absolutely nothing more comfortable or natural to me than being a pro wrestler, as silly as that sounds”

He also mentions that he is in good shape for his age and is always asked about returning to the ring. He says that he has no interesting in wrestling again. If he did, he says he could compete with the best young talent in WWE:

“Could I? Sure. And think I could probably compete with any young guy there.”

It makes you wonder how many wrestlers of the past have wrestled a match while intoxicated. I doubt it is tolerated in today’s WWE but you have to imagine the HBK isn’t the only one. It also sucks hearing from him that he could still compete today but I respect his decision to stick to his guns and stay retired. I am sure WWE has offered him boatloads of money.
