Sting Recalls His Match Against An Intoxicated Jeff Hardy In TNA

Sting recently participated in a Q&A at the Wales Comic Con in Wrexham. Sting answered a wide variety of fan questions. One of these questions had to do with his match against Jeff Hardy at TNA’s Victory Road event in 2011.

For those that aren’t familiar, Jeff Hardy faced Sting in the main event for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Jeff was noticeably inebriated during the match. Sting ended up forcefully pinning Jeff after an embarrassing match that lasted for 2 minutes.

Here is what Sting had to say about the incident:

“Jeff was in a bad way, he was deteriorating as the day went on, by the time our match rolled around it became clear that he couldn’t compete so I had to take him down quickly. He has since turned it all around, I love Jeff, I love his work, I hold nothing against him and wish him all the best.”

Jeff was a guest several months ago on Colt Cabana’s podcast: The Art of Wrestling, where he spoke about what happened:

“2011, with Sting, I was taking somas and I went out there f–ked up, and, man, I couldn’t even wrestle. For the first time in my life, I went too far. I couldn’t wrestle my idol, basically, Sting, and he had to do the right thing and shut me down and pin me.”

Jeff also said the incident was the best thing to ever happen to him because it helped straighten him out:

“That was my eye-opener, for the rest of my life, it was that night with Sting. And, man, I love him so much. He was so great after that and coming back in the best shape of my life in 2012, whenever that was when I won [TNA’s] world title again or whatever. Basically, in a way, in a sick way, that was kind of an eye-opener for me to see that and to feel pitiful for myself.”
