Charlotte Flair Talks About Surviving Domestic Violence

The Charlotte Observer recently posted a few excerpts from Ric and Charlotte Flair’s new book: Second Nature: The Legacy of Ric Flair and the Rise of Charlotte’. The book comes out on September 19th and you can pre-order it here.  In the book, there is a really interesting section on Charlotte being a survivor of domestic violence.

Charlotte was previously married to a man named Riki Johnson. In the book, Charlotte opens up about her ex-husband becoming physically violent with her.

“Riki was Jekyll and Hyde. If he was happy, things were great; he was the man of my dreams. If he was angry, everyone knew it, and it would be taken out on someone or something.”

She continued:

“Riki started swinging at me like we were in a street fight. Over his screams, I could hear his fists hit my arms. I managed to block most of the punches, but one shot got me in the ribs. I began to gasp for air, but he didn’t stop. Riki punched me right in the head.  think about that girl now, and it brings tears to my eyes. How did I get there? Why was this going on? Why wasn’t I strong enough, brave enough, to end this?”

Note: There is some confusion. This is NOT former TNA wrestler Bram (who also was married to Charlotte).

Order the book here.

A fascinating insight into the life of Charlotte before she was in WWE. This is also a very inspiring message to anybody that is going through domestic violence right now.
