More Details On The Chris Jericho, Brock Lesnar Backstage Altercation

As we noted prior, there was a backstage altercation between Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho at Summerslam. The altercation was due to Jericho being upset about the finish to Lesnar’s match with Orton and thinking he legitimately hurt him. The two reportedly got into a shoving match and had to be separated by Triple H, followed by Vince McMahon. (You can check out more of the backstory here).

On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required but recommended), Dave Meltzer provided a bit of an update on the story. He says that Lesnar called Jericho some names that could get him in a lot of trouble if word got out. The finish was reportedly a work and they only told a limited amount of people backstage. The plan was for Orton to get cut open. I am not sure if the WWE meant for it to be that bad (considering Randy got 10 staples) but the plan was for a TKO finish. Jericho was defending his friend’s safety as he wasn’t in the loop.

PWInsider.com also collaborates the story. They say that Jericho was getting a lot of praise backstage by fellow WWE stars for sticking up to Lesnar. They also report that both Lesnar and Jericho don’t have any heat with the company after the incident.

This isn’t the first time that Jericho has been praised for sticking up to tough guys backstage. Reports from back in the day say that Jericho stood up to Goldberg backstage and actually won the altercation. Moral of the story seems to be don’t mess with Y2J!

    • Well, to be fair, it was commentated by Mauro during SummerSlam that it wasnt gonna be a technical wrestling match, but a fight instead. And dammit, it was an awesome brutal fight. But yeah, Brock only has 2 moves in his moveset.
