Eric Bischoff Explains Why He Doesn’t Like A Hell In A Cell Match Between Sasha Banks and Charlotte

Sasha Banks and Charlotte will wrestle at the upcoming Hell In A Cell PPV for the RAW Women’s Championship. The match will take place inside a Hell In A Cell, becoming the first women’s match to enter that structure in WWE history. The match has a lot of excitement behind it from fans, but it looks like not everyone is excited about it.

Eric Bischoff on a recent episode of his podcast: Bischoff on Wrestling, explained why he isn’t a fan of the match.

Here is what he said:

“I don’t like it at all. I don’t like it. The standard for Hell in a Cell is pretty high. It physically is what it is. It’s a hardcore match. It’s an extreme match. It’s all of the above and then some. I’ve talked before about expectations and managing expectations with the audience. Sometimes you can do such a great job building something up that you forgot to remember that you also have to deliver. I am not taking anything away from either of those athletes that happen to be women. I am suggesting that the audience may not necessarily want to see that type of entertainment and that type of match out of that type of an athlete. That’s just my opinion” (Source: Bischoff On Wrestling).

  1. I disagree Bischoff, though nice try attempting to wrap the sexist statement by throwing the blame to the audience.

Charlotte is an exceptionally tough person and so can be Sasha, i see nothing wrong with this match type. If they want a hell in a cell, let it be. If they want a thumbtack and barbed wire bat match, let them. Allow them to understand their own limits and they can work with booking and contractual clauses just like any male wrestler.

But then im also the type that champions that if a female competitor is comfortable with the idea, to let them compete against the guys. Its not like a woman has never held the IC championship before.

But at least providing the option to compete in the gimmick matches like HiaC is a step in the right direction. The glass ceiling should already be shattered here, women have been pro wrestling nearly as long as the men have.
