5 Reasons Why Jinder Mahal Winning The WWE Title Was A Smart Move By WWE

Jinder Mahal is WWE Champion. As you can imagine, this decision by WWE has pissed a lot of people off. There are tons of articles and opinions about why Jinder shouldn’t be champion. We thought that we would put a positive spin on things and argue why it is a smart move by WWE.

1) WWE’s Expansion Into India

Let’s start off with the most obvious and probably the biggest reason why WWE actually chose to put the Title on Jinder Mahal. WWE clearly wants to expand their growth into India.

As a business move it is a smart decision by WWE. There are over 1.3 billion people in the country and WWE is currently not tapping into the market’s full potential. Putting the title on Jinder is clearly a play to make more money in the country.

The company hopes merchandise sales and WWE Network subscribers in India will skyrocket with his victory.

If WWE is able to increase their earnings from India, Jinder’s title run will be looked at as a success, regardless of what the fans think.

WWE is a business at the end of the day and this is a gamble that could pay off (or fail miserably). Time will only tell.

2) It Was Shocking

I would find it difficult for anybody to tell me they would have predicted six months ago that Jinder Mahal would be WWE Champion. You would have been laughed out of the building for suggesting something so ridiculous.

Even after he won the number one contender’s match, it still seemed like a foregone conclusion that Orton was retaining.

As you saw with the faces on the crowd at Backlash, fans were legitimately shocked. Jinder is the new WWE Champion and still fans are scratching their heads. Some people hated the decision, other’s have enjoyed the change of pace.

Being unpredictable in wrestling can be a good thing. We will have to wait for a few weeks to fully analyze if it was a smart decision by WWE. In the short-term, WWE has added some some shock value in their programming.

Let’s see where they go with it.
