Rumor On The Reason Why Vince McMahon Wants A Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman Match at Wrestlemania

We noted prior that WWE is rumored to be interested in a match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman at Wrestlemania 33. We saw this past week on RAW that Strowman got involved in the main event, taking out Reigns and Seth Rollins. This could be WWE laying the foundation for a future feud.

Why would WWE want to do Braun Strowman vs Roman Reigns? Strowman has been booked as an absolute monster since the WWE draft, squashing virtually everyone that he has been in the ring with.

It was speculated on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), that the reason for the potential match would be to get Reigns over with a big win against the giant:

“It’s Roman Reigns vs. the big giant. Why do you think they did Roman Reigns vs. Big Show all those times? That’s how you get a babyface over, he’s gotta beat a big giant. It’s Vince McMahon 101. It didn’t work the first time [with Big Show], and he did it 55 more times. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work, [Vince McMahon] just thinks it works”

It is unclear if this feud will be for the WWE Universal Title or for the United States Championship of Reigns. Roman is currently scheduled to face Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble where he could become the new Universal Title holder. Maybe Strowman costs him the match next month, setting this up. Maybe Strowman wins the Rumble and Reigns wins the Universal Title.

Plenty of options but it looks like Reigns and Strowman are on a collision course.

  1. People over analyze wrestling way too much. They are sucking the fun out of it for themselves and others around them with their whining. It’s almost like people have forgotten the term suspension of disbelief. This is like a circus show, yet many want it to be more like the UFC. I have been watching wrestling for 34 years, and it hasn’t really changed all that much. But a portion of the audience has. They want it their way, and only their way, to hell with the fact there are others with varying opinions. If they catered to them, then others would be upset. Focus on that which you do like, and ignore what you don’t. Then maybe you’ll start to have fun again.

    • I have to agree I’ve been a fan since 83 and the new fan has a short attention span and no patience for allowing a character to build himself the right way I was happy to see the brand split so that WWE could slow the pace and now we are seeing guys have better matches and feuds .

      • Absolutely. I enjoyed the roster split the first time for that reason. I was disappointed with them finally ending it, but I understood because the roster was lacking at the time. But now with the roster being so rich, it was definitely time. And with the performance center and NXT, they shouldn’t need to put the rosters back to one for quite some time.

    • Definitely dude. I feel the same way. That’s why I feel kinda bitter towards smarks that only cry about how amazing CM Punk is and hate on people like Roman Reigns. They just ruin the fun in wrestling with their over-analyzing and smarky attitude. It’s sad.

I also love the argument of “Roman Reigns told the fans they hate him because they hate their lives”. Well maybe if fans didn’t show such disdain for a wrestler that’s just doing his job and trying his best, he wouldn’t call them out on it? The reason he said it in the first place is because if you’re wasting all your time hating on Reigns instead of just supporting your favorites then chances are you have some personality issues.

  2. Doesn’t matter. The masses dislike Roman because they think it’s the cool thing to do. He has done nothing but put on great matches. Sad.
