Smackdown Live Review (August 8, 2017) – The RAWView

We kickoff Smackdown Live with John Cena and is it just me or has he not changed his attire yet? Cena gets booed and looks around like that’s never happened before. That’s multiple times now that John Cena refers to himself as “Super Cena” cool little nod to the internet fans. Say what you want about Cena but he put over Nakamura clean in the middle of the ring last week, and this week puts him over big on the microphone. Corbin interrupts Cena with his new theme and I’m really digging it. Corbin will have to elevate himself on the microphone if he’s entering a feud with Cena. Corbin finishes his promo with the best lines so far on the main roster. KUDOS Corbin for dismissing Cena because you have the briefcase. Daniel Daddyo Bryan comes out to a mega pop as if its 2014 all over again. We get Corbin vs. Cena set up for Summerslam and it’s a very good match for Corbin to showcase himself. I’m all for this, and I’m all for the end of Corbin’s promo there good stuff.

Next up with get the Uso’s against Tye Dillinger and Sami Zayn. I am 100% behind this team of Sami Zayn and Tye Dillinger and apparently Tye Dillinger is as well since he’s changed his attire. You could keep these two guys together for a while until the next shakeup and then split them up. We get the split screen for this match and Sami Zayn is the face in peril. They have really been using that head to ring post spot way too much. Dillinger gets the tag and he’s on FIRE! We get a good ending with the Uso’s overcoming Tye/Zayn because they have teamed longer and outsmarted the faces. Smackdown right now has really kicked off this show on fire. After the match we get the Uso’s attacking the Uso’s.

Fashion Peaks has now started and it’s got the Ascension involved. Fandango now comes back and has his tie tied to his head and says he’s was abducted by aliens. We get Arn Anderson interrupting the two and he says he destroyed Tully the horse. He also takes two donuts and leaves. Is this really the payoff? It’s to be continued and I assume this will climax at Summerslam.

THE QUEEN OF THE WWE IS OUT NEXT! She’s changed her looks somehow, new makeup maybe? Her opponent is Lana and this isn’t going to end well. Lana starts this match trying to out wrestle Charlotte and she pretty much laughs at Lana. I think there was just a full moon in Toronto. Lana has a crazy person face now (the crowd starts chanting thank you Lana and that brings a smile to Charlotte’s face). Lana slaps Charlotte which brings out the big boot and the figure eight. This match is OVER.

Cool Uncle Shane is out next to promote the match that everyone will be most looking forward to at Summerslam but won’t be the match of the night. This of course brings out Kevin Owens and The US Champion A….J…… STYLES! Kevin Owens does the best facial expressions of anyone in the WWE. The crowd is split on these two and Shane points this out. Kudos for WWE to bring up continuity and showing AJ bashing Shane’s head into a car window. Things get heated between the two and things break down and Styles hits a pele kick on Shane. Kevin Owens retreats laughing as Shane is on the ground.

Carmella is out for the next match and say what you will but she’s been on fire as of late. She will be taking on Naomi in a non title that could turn title match. Carmella could be the top heel of this division if she already isn’t. I’m glad Naomi got a run with the title however it’s been lackluster and not memorable. Becky Lynch and Charlotte is on the roster and neither of them have been in a title match in months. We get some good back and forth action and ELLSWORTH RETURNS!! Carmella wins and my only question is why isn’t she cashing in right now and getting a quick pin? Carmella runs into Natty backstage and if it’s up to me I have Natalya defeat Naomi and then have Carmella cash in.

Nakamura cuts a good promo that was recorded prior and not live. They should do more of this with Nakamura as I think this is the best he’s come across in a full promo yet. Much like Naomi, Jinder Mahal’s title reign needs to come to an end. The WWE has invested a lot of time and effort to present them as stars however I don’t think either have succeed. Not that either have failed but they aren’t ready to be the top of the mountain of their respective divisions right now. Wwe get a Jinder Mahal chant here in Toronto and Orton is booed pretty loudly. Orton takes a pretty cool bump being pushed off the table onto the barricade. When Orton decides to hang up the boots he will be missed more than you can appreciate right now. This match be their best yet and shall while getting better in the ring still lacks top guy promo work and top guy in ring talent. Orton just hit the RKO out of nowhere and pins the WWE champion clean in the ring. HA! Good stuff by WWE continuing to do things after the cameras go off. They put up the 205Live watermark and Rusev kicks Orton in the mush. Smackdown Live certainly knocked it out of the park and once their top champions get changed up may retake the crown for the better show
