Why WWE Brought Back The Great Khali & Potential Summerslam Match

The Great Khali made a surprising return to WWE during the Battleground Pay-Per-View. He returned to help Jinder Mahal defeat Randy Orton in the Punjabi Prison match. This was the first time that WWE fans have seen him since he left the company in 2014.

There has been much confusion about Khali and his role moving forward with WWE.

Here are some things to take into consideration after Battleground.

– Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio speculated that WWE brought Khali back in order to help with Jinder’s popularity in India. The Great Khali is extremely popular in the country and WWE is hoping that it will rub off on Jinder. Also, numbers haven’t exactly exploded in India so far and they could be hoping Khali will help with that.

– Khali is officially listed as an active superstar on WWE.com. This at least tells us that his appearance wasn’t just a one-off for the Punjabi Prison match and there are plans for him moving forward.  Here is a screenshot of the roster page:

– Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio also speculated that this could be leading to a tag team match at Summerslam. An option tossed out by them was the Great Khali and Jinder Mahal vs Randy Orton and John Cena.

Another option that has been speculated by fans is Khali vs Orton in a singles match at Summerslam. We will have to wait and see what happens.
