WWE Releases Statement After Jinder Mahal’s Promo On Smackdown Live Picks Up Mainstream Media Attention

Smackdown Live this week featured a promo from Jinder Mahal that is getting a lot of attention. Mahal made fun of his WWE Championship challenger: Shinsuke Nakamura, while the Singh Brothers laughed hysterically. This included jokes about Nakamura pronouncing the word ‘look’ as ‘rook’ and calling him Mr. Miyagi (from the Karate Kid movies).

Fans in the arena chanted: “That’s too far”. There were also some fans on social media that called the segment racist.

We noted prior that WWE did not upload the promo to their Youtube channel after Smackdown Live. It also appeared like the story would be getting some mainstream media attention, with a writer for the Washington Post asking for emails from fans that were in attendance.

That same writer (Marissa Payne), did end up writing a piece for the Washinton Post and interviewed some fans in attendance of Smackdown. She also got a statement from WWE on the promo. Here is what WWE issued:
