Speculation On Why Sami Zayn Helped Kevin Owens At Hell in a Cell

The big story of Hell in a Cell was what happened in the main event between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon. Sami Zayn ended up pulling his longtime rival Owens out of the way of Shane, who was jumping off the Cell. As a result, Owens was able to pick up the win. It was a shocking and awesome ending to the show.

So the real question is, why would Sami Zayn do this? Why would he help out his biggest rival?

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been best friends and rivals for the past 15 years. It seems like one logical explanation is that Sami didn’t want to see his friend die (by taking the elbow drop from Shane off the top of the cell). As a result, he helped Owens move out of the way to protect him.

Also, Sami might be frustrated by his booking on Smackdown Live. Since Shane is the commissioner of the show, it makes sense that he would be frustrated with him. A few weeks ago on Smackdown Live, Sami and Owens were involved in a promo segment.  Owens told Sami about how much more he has accomplished than him since they both joined WWE. This includes becoming a multiple time Champion and getting big matches. Maybe Sami has finally realized that he needs to cut a few corners to get to the top like Owens has. By pairing himself with someone as ruthless as Owens, it could help him get to the top. As we saw during Hell in a Cell, his face looked conflicted like he wasn’t sure what he was doing was right.

What I am saying is that I think the Sami-Owens storyline is going to be a lot more complex than just ‘Sami is a bad guy now’. I believe he is going to be conflicted with both his friendship with Owens and his desire to have success in WWE. A sort of gray character between good and evil. Should be fascinating to see what happens and I am very invested.
