The Ascension made their WWE main roster debuts back in late 2014. They immediately called out legendary tag teams of the past, like the Road Warriors, Demolition and the Powers of Pain. By doing so they immediately lost all credibility as a knock-off tag team and they haven’t recovered since.

Road Warrior Animal was recently interviewed by Sports Illustrated where he spoke about WWE’s ‘stupid’ decision to try to get the Ascension to copy the Road Warriors. He also mentions two tag teams that have a chance to be great in WWE.
Animal on WWE’s ‘stupid’ decision to try to have the Ascension emulate the Road Warriors:
“To take two guys out of NXT and try to emulate the Road Warriors was stupid. It was set up to fail from the beginning. The fans see through everything, and they saw through that right away. They never should have even mentioned us in their promo, because it backfired and they were booed. The wrestling fans sniffed this right out”
Animal says that he only thinks the New Day and American Alpha have a chance to be great tag teams in WWE:
“I’ll admit it, I love those guys. I helped train Big E for a couple of weeks in Tampa. I know those three and they’re all really good guys and very talented. People believe in them, and American Alpha is the only other team with a chance to be great. They just need to improve their interviews”
