Michael Cole has been with WWE for two decades. He started his career as a backstage interviewer back in 1997. He eventually worked his way up and has been a staple of the WWE announcing team for years. Some fans enjoy his work, others can’t stand him.

According to a report from PWInsider Elite (subscribe here), Michael Cole might be stepping away from his role as RAW’s lead commentator in the near future. There is no timetable for a change but there has reportedly been a lot of talk about Cole moving to a permanent backstage role with WWE, instead of an on-air talent.
Cole apparently already plays a big role in WWE’s production when it comes to the commentary team and getting them ready for shows. It should be mentioned that this isn’t a firing or because of Cole’s performance, it is due to Cole having increased interest in focusing on the behind-the-scenes job instead of doing both.

Our take: Michael Cole proved during the WWE UK Championship that he is a very capable announcer when he doesn’t have Vince in his ear. I read many rave reviews of fans saying that they enjoyed his work in the tournament. He also showed some great chemistry with Nigel McGuinness during the tournament.
I think Cole has a lot to offer in a backstage role and if he works hands-on to groom the next generation, I don’t think it is a bad move in the slightest.
Let us know what you think in the comment section below.Would you like to see Cole stick around or would you like to see someone new in the role?
