News broke last week that Hulk Hogan was discussing a potential return with WWE. This was confirmed by WWE, who released a statement on Hulk and their discussions.

Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), provided some more details. Here are some of the highlights:
– Hogan and WWE have had regular communication over the past year. Meltzer says that WWE has always been looking for the right time to bring Hogan back without risking any sponsor backlash.
– According to company sources, the idea of Hogan coming back would be in a role where he would talk about how stupid that he was for what he said. It would be a redemption/ forgiveness story. The goal would be to make sure that enough time has passed that his return wouldn’t be seen as controversial.

– Meltzer also notes that there are some rumors about Hogan returning as the Smackdown General Manager but they are only rumors at the moment and nothing concrete behind them.
