Backstage Report On Why The Latest Call-Ups From NXT Were Picked

It was announced on Monday Night RAW this week that several Superstars from NXT have been called up to the WWE main roster. Lacey Evans, EC3, Heavy Machinery, and Nikki Cross were the names that were announced.

They join Lars Sullivan, who has been advertised by WWE for the past several weeks.

So why were these names chosen?

According to a report from John Pollock of POST Wrestling, WWE was looking for call-ups that have strong characters. Pollock says that WWE also wanted to leave certain talents in NXT in order to help sell tickets for their upcoming touring shows.

Pollock says that these are the only call-ups expected for the time being. He also says that there are lots of people in WWE creative who would love to have some of the top stars from NXT on the main roster but it isn’t their call. WWE wanted some Superstars from NXT with good characters but didn’t want to take all of the top talent.

My Take: This makes some sense. All 6 call-ups provide a shake-up to the roster but they also won’t cripple NXT moving forward. Better to not rush their top stars into getting called up before they have a strong plan for them.

On a related note, here are several top NXT stars who we think will be the next to be called up to the main roster in 2019.
