Baron Corbin’s Failed Cash-In Broken A WWE Record

Baron Corbin was unsuccessful in his attempt to cash-in his Money in the Bank contract on Jinder Mahal. After a distraction from John Cena, Mahal was able to roll-up Corbin to retain his title. It was a very shocking moment and something that nobody expected. As a result, Jinder is still Champion and Corbin loses his briefcase.

Remember the date of August 15th, 2017 because it looks like fans got to witness history on Smackdown Live.

The match between Corbin and Jinder from when the bell rang until the 3 count was made was just over 6 seconds (from our timing).

This breaks the record for the shortest WWE Championship match in history!

If our memory serves us correctly. The previous record was held by Randy Orton, who cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Daniel Bryan in 2013. The match was just over 7 seconds long (after re-watching and timing it).

At a house show in 1994, Diesel won the WWE Title from Bob Backlund in 8 seconds.

Sheamus also defeated Zack Ryder on RAW in just over 10 seconds several years ago.

Note: this is not the shortest match in WWE history but the shortest WWE Title match. An important distinction.
