2) Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit – Royal Rumble 2003
Depending on who you ask, the best match of Kurt Angle’s career might have been at the 2003 Royal Rumble against Chris Benoit for the WWE Championship. Two of the best technical wrestlers in WWE history put on a classic of a match together. They had been rivals and tag team partners for years before feuding over the WWE Championship in 2003.
The match was fantastic from bell to bell, with both guys showing why they are considered two of the best technical wrestlers WWE has ever seen. The two made mat wrestling entertaining, which isn’t an easy task. Both put their bodies on the line and put on one heck of a show.
In interviews, Angle has listed this as one of his favorite matches of his career. Angle was able to win after reversing the ‘Crippler Crossface’ into an ‘Angle Lock’. Benoit could not take it anymore and was forced to tap out.
Both men received a standing ovation from the crowd for their incredible effort. Obviously, with circumstances surrounding Chris Benoit, WWE doesn’t acknowledge this match but it remains as one of the best in Angle’s career.
1) Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels – Wrestlemania 21
When you think of two of the greatest professional wrestlers in history, two names that will top the list are Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels.
Under the lights of Wrestlemania in Hollywood, both guys put on an incredible performance. We saw a number of amazing reversals, close finishes and great moments during this match. Two competitive guys trying to outdo one another on the biggest stage.
Kurt Angle would eventually make Michaels tap out with the ‘Angle Lock’, ending this match. Both guys received a standing ovation for their performance. In various interviews, Kurt Angle has said that this was probably his favorite match of his career.
One of the best professional wrestling matches that I have ever seen. The match was overshadowed a bit by the 2 moments that followed. John Cena and Batista both won their first-ever World Titles:
It truly was a fantastic match and one of the best Kurt Angle matches of his entire career. It earns the number one spot on our list of the best Kurt Angle matches in his WWE career.
