Bret Hart Explains Why He Enjoys The ‘Make Darren Young Great Again’ Angle

Darren Young is currently using WWE legend Bob Backlund as his life coach on WWE TV. The goal is to ‘Make Darren Young Great Again’ in a play off the Donald Trump Presidential slogan “Make America Great Again’. The angle has been widely doubted (at least among my social media followers) that it will ever work. In a recent episode of Bret Hart Radio, the Hitman explains why he enjoys Darren Young, Bob Backlund and the  ‘Make Darren Young Great Again’ angle.

Bret explains that his enjoyment of the angle comes from liking both Bob and Darren:

“I kind of like them. I like both of them individually. Bob is a lot like he is on TV. He’s a real character but he’s a really passionate character. When he’s telling you about something that he believes in he’s very passionate and he gets very animated like he does when he’s talking to Darren. I think Darren is just a great guy. A real stand up guy. The fact that he’s taken the road that he has in wrestling shows that he’s got a lot of courage. People have a lot of respect for him. There’s not many guys that could have taken that step forward like he did and declared himself. I think he’s respected for it” (Source: Bret Hart Radio).

He explains that he thinks the pair together is an interesting match up:

“I think it’s an interesting match up… him and Bob together. Bob’s very conservative but there is a relationship that seems to be building out of it. I find myself watching and going, “What an odd pair.” Having Bob Backlund preaching to Darren and all that. I kind of like it. I know one thing about Bob is that he is a salt of the Earth kind of guy. I just like the fact that they have him doing something. Anytime I can see Bob on TV is kind of like Duggan and certain guys that you just love them for who they were. What kind of characters they were and how they represented the business for all of the years they were in it. I like seeing Bob Backlund on TV” (Source: Bret Hart Radio).
