Cody Rhodes Discusses Not Being Allowed To Use The ‘Rhodes’ Name Outside Of WWE

Cody Rhodes was recently interviewed by For The Win. During the interview he spoke on a wide variety of topics about his wrestling career. One of the most interesting topics that came up was about him not being allowed to use the ‘Rhodes’ name outside of WWE.

You might have noticed if you have been following Rhodes in his post-WWE life that he is going as simply ‘Cody’ for televised show. That is because WWE owns the name ‘Cody Rhodes’ (his real name is Cody Runnels).

Here is what he said about the situation:

“It’s an ongoing situation. … I like going by my first name sometimes because it’s so silly. They know what last name is. They know where I came from, … It’s silly that in the same period that (WWE will) promote a tag team tournament in honor of my dad, that you disallow me to use my last name”

Cody continued, saying that things will eventually work out:

“But please, please let me say, I’m not mad at anybody and it will work itself out without any type of lawsuit. It will take some time. But in the meantime, I’ll use the one thing they can’t take from me and that’s Cody”

You can find the full interview at For The Win and you can follow Cody on Twitter @CodyRhodes to keep up to date with what he is doing next.

Hopefully him and WWE are able to work things out and he is able to use his name moving forward. Certainly a weird situation but hoping it turns out positively.
