Former WWE Referee Reveals The Instructions That The Undertaker Gave Him Prior To Wrestlemania 25

Former WWE referee Marty Elias was recently interviewed by ‘Wrestling Reality with Justin LaBar’. He spoke on a wide variety of topics about his career in WWE and his current work for Lucha Underground.

Elias holds the distinction of being the referee for the Wrestlemania 25 match between the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. Some WWE fans still call it their favorite match of all-time.

Do you remember when the Undertaker went for that big dive on the outside of the ring and missed? It turns out that Marty Elias almost counted him out as a shoot.

Here is what Elias said in regards to how involved he was with the planning of the match:

“We actually met 3 days prior to the event. We sat down and they laid out their match. I was specifically told by Undertaker that if he didn’t beat the count after the dive, to shoot count him out. That’s the only instruction I got”

On if there would have been any heat on him if he had counted the Undertaker out:

“Oh, I’m sure. Here’s the thing, when he dove he landed on his head and got a concussion. He was literally coo coo. We didn’t make eye contact until 8 and a half or 9 when I was making that count. IT came really close to me counting him out and he was loopy. It really was that close, that was a shoot”

One of the greatest WWE matches of all time could have ended in a count-out.
