Jake Roberts On Vince McMahon Seeing Steve Austin As A Mid-carder, Sting Being Lazy

You likely remember Jake ‘the Snake’ from his time in the WWE. Jake Roberts was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, even though he never won a championship in the company, showing how special he was. In a recent interview with Chris Featherstone of Fox Sports, Jake Roberts spoke about a wide variety of topics.  Here were the highlights of the interview, including some interesting comments about Vince McMahon and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Sting.

Jake Roberts says that he was a big supporter of Steve Austin when he was struggling to find his place in the WWE. He says Vince McMahon at first only thought of Austin as a midcard guy at best:

“I’d been helping Steve for a while, and he would call me and tell me what was going on. I was a big supporter of Steve before anybody else was. In fact, Vince (McMahon) had told me that this guy is midcard at best. I disagreed with him; I said, this guy is gonna be your next ‘blow it out of the water’ guy. I hate when I’m right, but boy, I was right” (Source: Fox Sports).

Jake also said he didn’t enjoy working with Sting in WCW who he felt like was mailing it in during their matches:

“He was very lackadaisical, didn’t want to ramp it up. I didn’t enjoy it. Bottom line. I didn’t enjoy it. It’s one thing to go out there and tip your hat and go at it and try to have a great night. But when you go out there and you know the guy across from you just doesn’t have his heart in it, [get out]! It’s a shame” (Source: Fox Sports).
