Jim Ross On The Rumors About 2 Monthly WWE PPV’s, RAW vs Smackdown

Rumors broke yesterday about the WWE possibly going with 2 monthly WWE PPV’s after the Brand Split. This would mean that both RAW and Smackdown would get their own unique PPV event on the WWE Network each month. This would exclude the big four WWE PPV’s (WrestleMania, Summerslam, Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble) where that month both brands would split the event. Jim Ross in a recent blog, commented on the rumor and why he thinks it is a good idea.

JR says that the rumors about 2 monthly WWE PPV’s (one for RAW, one for Smackdown) makes sense:

“If the rumored plans for WWE to run two, brand specific PPV Special’s monthly on the WWE Network after the brand separation are true, then that tells me that WWE is serious about keeping the brands separate which is the number one thing that I outlined as needing to occur for the split to have a chance to work. It also likely means that each brand will have their own primary champion ala WWE World Champion and another title of a similarity that would easily denote that it’s the brand’s top prize. Keeping the brands separate until they are strategically blended for an event like the Royal Rumble or one of the other more established PPV’s makes sense” (Source: JRSBARBQ.com).

JR also says the WWE needs to book RAW and Smackdown as different brands that compete against one another like WCW vs WWF back in the day:

“I’d love to see the two, USA Network shows be as uniquely different as possible from a creative standpoint as to not resemble each other much at all just like how RAW and Nitro differed back in the day. If both RAW and Smackdown are produced with exclusive elements it would seem to me that would increase the chances of being successful on their own merits. For sure, the brand split cannot produce RAW and RAW-Lite TV shows for the potentially game changing move. Love to see these two shows appear to be owned by different companies while both tries to increase their market share” (Source: JRSBARBQ.com).

I agree with JR here. I hope they make both RAW and Smackdown as rival promotions where they compete with each other on a weekly basis. Hopefully guys step up and we see great TV!
