Martha Hart Issues Statement About Her Not Wanting Owen Hart In The WWE Hall Of Fame

Many people want to see Owen Hart take his place in the WWE Hall of Fame one day. This includes Bret Hart, who has always been vocal about his desire to see his brother get inducted by WWE.

Bret recently made some comments about Owen’s widow, Martha Hart on the ‘In This Corner’ podcast. Here is some of what Bret said:

“I think Martha, Owen’s widow, she’s a very obtuse, square-headed person. I think she’s done more to erase my brother Owen’s memory than she ever did to remember him. I think it really bothers me that the fans that loved Owen so much didn’t get a chance to remember him. You do these kind of things for people are here–left to remember them. I mean Owen, it would never matter to him if he was in the Hall Of Fame, but I think that you know it would mean a lot to different family members in my family. I know Mark Henry as an example, gave a strong speech or talk this year about getting Owen into the Hall Of Fame and I totally agree,”

Here is the statement from Martha Hart in response to Bret and her decision to not let Owen be inducted (via the Digital Journal):

“The suggestion by Bret Hart that I am “erasing” the memory of my late husband, Owen Hart, is reckless, irresponsible, and clearly untrue.

Bret’s comments are rooted in the fact that I have steadfastly refused to work with the WWE to exploit Owen’s image for commercial gain. Owen was an incredible entertainer and I know that his many fans around the world enjoyed his wrestling career immensely. I encourage them to continue to do so. But I am firm in my belief that the WWE was responsible for Owen’s death. As a result, I cannot and will not support any efforts by the WWE to profit from Owen’s memory.

Instead, I, my son Oje and daughter Athena have worked tirelessly to honor Owen through the good works of The Owen Hart Foundation, which has exceeded $4 million in gift giving and contributions toward scholarships, home owner bursaries, and other special projects that have greatly improved the lives of so many in Canada and around the world. We have always believed that this is the most fitting public tribute to a man of profound integrity; a wonderful human being who just happened to wrestle. I know that Owen would be very proud of the tremendous accomplishments the Foundation has achieved in his name.

Bret Hart’s comments are disrespectful and cruel. It is disappointing that so many in the media have chosen to report them without seeking my perspective. Whatever Bret may believe, the fact is that, far from “erasing” Owen’s memory, I have devoted the last 20 years to celebrating his life in a very public way. I can think of very few people who have been remembered so glowingly by their spouse”

  1. Wow Martha there are loads of Wrestling fans today that have no idea who Owen Hart is and you know who’s fault that is……thats right yours, i get you lost a husband and father of your kids but you are acting like Owen was the only member of that family do you forget that Bret lost a best friend that night too if you really wanna blame someone for this Vince Russo is the guy to blame because everyone else in WWE asked Owen if really wanted to do this Russo on the other didnt seem to care so go ahead and keep neglecting today’s WWE fans or wrestling fans in general to not know anything about him..someone the other day ask me who is the guy facing Bret Hart in that WrestleMania match and i told said person it was his brother Owen and the sad part about this is said person ask “Who’s Owen?” Martha get out of that shell of your move on Owen Hart is the most requested wrestler to be included in WWE video games Owen is the most request wrestler for Mattel action figures people want to honor the King of Hearts you may not like it but im prettty the brothers and sisters of Owen disagree with how are you treating Owen’s legacy you saying “a wonderful human being who just happened to wrestle.” is the kind of statements Bret is talking about erasing his history and ignoring it are two different things But you still uses his name, made famous by wrestling, to get her charity over. Ironic and Pathetic i hope WWE sticks it to you and puts Owen in the Hall of Fame because like Henry said doesnt matter if you hate WWE’s guts or not Owen deserves to be there and him not being there is a not honoring his legacy and his legacy is not just being a good person his legacy wither you like or not was and is always going to be PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING.
