The Original Pitch For Adam Cole At The Royal Rumble

Adam Cole had one heck of a weekend. At NXT Takeover: Philadelphia, Cole put on a great Extreme Rules match with Aleister Black. One night later, he entered the Royal Rumble match.

It turns out that there was a much different pitch for Cole at the Rumble.

On Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer says that there was originally a pitch for Adam Cole to accept Bobby Roode’s U.S Title open challenge.

The plan was scrapped after they realized that it wouldn’t be the best thing for Cole to lose in 8 minutes on the kickoff show.

It appears as if a lot of WWE’s plans changed for the U.S Title match. It was noted yesterday that there were originally some plans for Dolph Ziggler to accept the U. S Title open challenge. This was changed and he was put in the Royal Rumble match instead.

Cole entered the Rumble match in the number 23 spot to a big pop from the crowd. He was eventually eliminated by Rey Mysterio.
