Re-Writing The Book – Chapter 14: Macho Madness

One of the biggest stories in late 1994 was the defection of Randy Savage to WCW. He had been part of the commentary team with Vince McMahon and hadn’t really wrestled much in 1994. It’s said that he left WWF in part because Vince wanted to go with a youth movement and keep Savage announcing and not wrestling. With this I’m going with the assumption that if and when Savage went to.Vince about getting back in the ring, Vince agrees with it. After losing Hogan it was a bad blow losing Randy Savage as well when he could have been used to get talents over. We are going to pick up at Royal Rumble 1995 and the return of Randy Savage to the ring.

In late 1994 Randy Savage would continue commentating until a brutal attack from Jeff Jarrett and his guitar. Jarrett would go on week after week touting he’s the man that has taken over Nashville, The WWF, and retired Randy Savage. Jarrett face off against Razor Ramon at Royal Rumble for the IC title and lose. Later in the night Jarrett would be in the Rumble and entrant twenties music would hit and it would be the surprise return of Randy Savage. They would brawl out of the ring and to the back with neither really being eliminated.

The next night in Monday Night Raw Vince McMahon would be in the ring and give the formal announcement for the return of Randy Savage. During the interview the Roadie would come out and Jarrett would attack Savage from behind locking in the figure four. The next few weeks on Raw they would make mention that Jarrett has injured the knee of Savage. The inaugural In Your House would feature a segment where Jarrett would issue an open challenge to anyone in the back.

Randy Savage would accept the challenge however Jarrett would say it’s a match with The Roadie. Randy Savage would win this match with the elbow and after the match Jarrett and Savage would not brawl rather Savage would chase Jarrett to the back. This would lead to the next night on Raw where both men would qualify for the King of the Ring. Savage would make it to the semi finals however would lose to Mabel thanks to outside interference from Jeff Jarrett. Having Mabel pin a guy like Savage even dirty would do a lot for him going into a WWF title match at SummerSlam.

Savage would tell Jarrett he wants him one on one on the next night’s Raw. Jarrett would tell him if he can’t defeat Jarrett and Roadie on Raw the next week he would accept his challenge. Later in the night Ted Dibiase would offer his services to Savage. Savage wouldn’t answer he would just say he has.business to take care of. Savage would of course pin Roadie the next week and at In Your House 2 we would have Jarrett vs. Savage one on one. Early in the night at In Your House Dibiase would ask Savage if he had made his mind up and Savage would walk away.

During the match Roadie would attempt to interfere and the referee would catch him. Dibiase would attempt to give brass knuckles to Savage but he would decline them. However Jarrett would hit a low blow and pin Savage during the distraction. He would roll out and run away. This would lead to a confrontation between Dibiase and Savage. Diesel would defeat Sid later in the night after Savage as one of the lumberjacks would take an extra shot at Sid.

On Raw the next night Savage would come down and call out Dibiase and Sid would instead come out to answer Savage. This would lead to a powerbomb and a SummerSlam match set for Savage vs. Sid. Savage would go on to defeat Sid at SummerSlam and he would say he’s moved past Ted Dibiase and the million dollar corporation. On Raw the next night Savage would come out to challenges the WWF champion and out would come Dibiase and Bam Bam Bigelow. This would lead to A match at In Your House 3.

Savage would of course accept the challenge and defeat Bam Bam at In Your House. After the match we would see Goldust in the crowd applauding the win of Savage. At the next In Your House the IC title would be vacated and given to Dean Douglas. He would have to defend the title moments later against Randy Savage. Savage would defeat Douglas and capture his first title in years. Again Goldust would be seen as excited for Savage’s victory.

On the following Raw Goldust would finally speak and have a provocative promo in regards to Savage. They would be on opposite sides on Survivor Series with Goldust eliminating Savage in their match. Dean Douglas would demand a rematch at In Your House:Season’s Beatings. Savage would defeat Douglas and after the match Goldust would come down to “celebrate” with Savage however it wouldn’t go well. Goldust would back down and it would not get very physical.

At the Royal Rumble Savage would say he’s entering as the IC champion and leaving the number one contender for the WWF Title. During the Rumble Savage would eliminate Goldust however Goldust would distract him leading to Savage’s elimination towards the end of the match.

From here we would eventually get a one on one matchup with Goldust taking the IC title off of Savage at Wrestlemania. Imagine Savage vs.Goldust and Bret vs. Shawn at Wrestlemania twelve. With Diesel and Razor leaving shortly after I could see Savage being the face to.feud with Vader to set up a match with Shawn. Also a heel turn at the end of 1996 and matches with Shawn and Bret. This concludes chapter thirteen. I hope you enjoyed it and if you did please share and comment on this.
