Roman Reigns Explains Where The Shield Ranks Among Greatest WWE Factions, Splitting Up Too Soon

Roman Reigns was recently a guest on ESPN’s Cheap Heat podcast, promoting the Royal Rumble. We noted prior about Reigns speaking his mind about a potential heel turn (which you can check out here). He also had some comments about his time in the Shield alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

During the interview, Reigns was asked where he ranks the Shield among the greatest WWE factions of all time. Here is what he said:

“I think we’re definitely in the top five. It’s tough because you have different situations within companies with nWo, DX, the whole company war, the ratings war, and stuff like that. The difference between The Shield and everybody else is we didn’t have names. Seth and Dean, they were kind of indie darlings, so they had a little bit of an internet buzz, but as far as casual fans and mass media, nobody knew who they were. Nobody knew who I was. I didn’t have any wrestling following, so for us to come in and make a name for ourselves, I think that speaks a lot”

Reigns continued, saying that the he feels like the Shield broke up too soon and still had a babyface run in them:

“And to come in to the position that we came in, working right away with top dogs, and then, slowly taking over the main event scene. I still, to this day, feel like we broke up too early. I really do. I think we had a really nice babyface run in us, but it just is what it is”

Our take: I think top 5 is a pretty fair assessment. I personally believe that the Shield does have another big run as a faction left in them, so their story it not even close to being written. I am sure by the end of all 3 of their careers we will be putting them in the top few.
