Rumor On The Original Plans For A Gimmick Match At Wrestlemania 35

On this week’s episode of Smackdown Live, it was confirmed that Rey Mysterio would be challenging Samoa Joe at Wrestlemania 35 for the United States Championship.

We have a rumor to pass your way about a gimmick match that was originally planned for Wrestlemania involving Mysterio.

This comes via Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here).

According to Dave, Rey Mysterio vs Andrade Almas was originally planned to take place at Wrestlemania this year. This would have been a mask vs hair match.

It is unclear why exactly WWE decided to scrap these plans. Speculation is that maybe they didn’t want Andrade to lose his hair.

My Take: That would have been a fun match. We won’t get the stipulation but I could still see Andrade finding his way into Joe vs Mysterio at Wrestlemania. Would make sense based on the rumor of WWE doing a lot of multi-man matches this year.
