Rumor Roundup: Backstage Note On Finn Balor, NXT Superstar To Receive A Push, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) NXT Superstar To Receive A Long-Term Push

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about WWE wanting to push International Superstars for certain markets. One of these Superstars is Xia Li, who is WWE’s first female wrestler from China.

According to Meltzer, Xia is a long-term project for WWE and she is being groomed for a big push in the future. Here is what he said (h/t to Wrestletalk):

“The deal with Xia Li – in WWE right now, there’s a big movement to have international stars for certain markets. But they have this idea, but then like with Mansoor, they have the idea but then they won’t go with them which is very weird, but they want a Latin star besides Rey Mysterio because Rey’s 46 years old. They really want Indian stars, which is why we got freakin’ Jinder again, and then they want Chinese stars, and that’s where Xia comes in.

“Xia’s got some charisma, she’s got the martial arts ability, when she does her stuff it kinda looks good and everything. I don’t know if she can make it or not. But that’s the whole thing, she’s a project. Mercedes (Martinez) has been around for probably close to 20 years, so Mercedes’ job is to help season Xia Li. So that’s why they’re doing that program now.”

My Take:

  • I have liked what I have seen from Xia, so no complaints from me. Interested to see if they push her to the main roster in the next year or so.

4) Backstage Meeting After Recent WWE Firings

According to @Wrestlevotes, WWE held a meeting after all of the firings that happened on Tuesday. Here is what the account Tweeted:

After yesterday’s layoffs, I’m told WWE hosted an internal conference today with most of the “power players” including Nick Khan. While the meeting was said to be organized well, it contained nothing of real substance. So status quo.

The account added the following, saying that WWE employees were not left feeling re-assured after this meeting:

For the “wHy eVeN tWeeT tHis tHeN” crowd… the point of the tweet was to mention that WWE held a “reassurance meeting” after many people got laid off and afterwards, current employees feel no more assured of anything. So that crowd can 1. Unfollow and 2. Stick to the newz sites.

My Take:

  • I always feel bad when people lose their jobs. My heart goes out to anyone who lost their job with WWE over the past week.
