Rumor Roundup: Big Swerve Coming In The Jeff Hardy Storyline? What Vince Changed At Backlash, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) What Vince McMahon Changed At Backlash

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, Vince McMahon made a late change to the finish of a match at Backlash. That match was Asuka vs Nia Jax for the RAW Women’s Championship.

Asuka was originally planned to pin Nia but Vince changed the finish to a double disqualification:

“The impression that I’ve been given…I believe that the original finish was Asuka was gonna pin Nia and for whatever reason, they decided I guess on the day of the show to do a double count out instead.”

My Take:

  • I actually don’t mind that they protected Nia from taking a clean loss in that spot. As long as she doesn’t take the belt off Asuka, I am fine with the feud continuing.

4) WWE Roster Changes Discussed

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, combining the RAW and SmackDown rosters (into one troupe) is something that has “been talked about” in WWE.

This comes after the rumors that Vince McMahon is looking to make some big changes in order to help improve the ratings of RAW.

It is unclear if WWE will pull the trigger on ending the brand split but it is something that has been discussed to get more star power on both RAW and Smackdown.

My Take:

  • I wouldn’t end the brand split but I would try to use Superstars from other brands more effectively. For example, I would have someone like Roderick Strong from NXT show up on RAW to answer an open challenge from Apollo Crews. This would lead to a really good match between Strong and Crews. Fans get to see a good match and Strong gets a bit of exposure to the main roster audience. There are ways to utilize other Superstars without doing a full-blown brand split.
